Avoid Speeding Fines – Understand the Reasons You Speed

By -, September 21, 2009 5:40 pm

Everybody wants to avoid them. However, it’s pretty easy to start speeding and before you know it you end up with a fine. The roads today are littered with speed cameras, speed traps and traffic police – so its easy to get points, receive speeding fines and even lose your license – all in a single day. One of the best things you can do to avoid speeding fines is actually to understand the reasons that you speed in the first place. There are several common and basic reasons that people end up speeding. Once you understand what they are, then you can work on fixing the problem so you don’t get a fine. So, here’s a look at some of the most common reasons you speed and how you can fix this to avoid getting fined for speeding in the future.

Speeding Fines.

Reason #1 – You Don’t Notice the Speed Changed – One of the main reasons that people end up speeding, which often results in speeding fines, is because they don’t even realize that the speed limit has changed. On many of the roads across the UK, you’ll find that the speed does change from time to time. Since the speed limit can change several times on that one road, it’s pretty easy to keep driving along even after the speed has been lowered. Before you know it you end up being pulled over and given a ticket for speeding, and you never even realized you were doing something wrong. There are many people that end up paying fines because they didn’t notice a speed change.

The Solution:
If you are not the most observant driver and notice speed changes, there are other things you can do to mitigate this, and avoid speeding fines. Never get complacent, always look out for road signs. Instead of paying so much attention to everything else, keep watchful for speed limit signs and also keep an eye on other vehicles around you. If you notice they slow down, it could be because the speed has changed and is a bit lower.

Reason #2 – You need to concentrate on Drivining – Again, high in the list are people’s careless attitiude to concentrating whilst driving. Unfortunately, the quality and comfort of cars today make it all to simple to travel from a to b, without having to pay that much attention to actually driving. There are many distractions, such as listening to the radio, thinking about something important, or even talking to someone in the vehicle. Keep focussed on the driving, beecause if you let yourself become distracted you’ll be getting a ticket before you know.

The Answer:
Do you want to remedy this situation? Remember, concentration is a key aspect when driving, even after you pass your test – if not more so. Try to avoid things that take your mind off what you are doing. Focus on your speed. Look down every few minutes to check how fast you are going. This way you don’t just go speeding off, and end up with a hefty speeding fine.

Reason #3 – Aggression on the Road – Aggression out there on the road can end up being a reason that people speed today as well. If you are upset or annoyed, its easy to speed without realising. People who are stressed out often go faster and may become more aggressive when they are driving. If you arent’ focussed on the driving, and are wound up – or in a unsafe state of mind to drive, you’ll probably end up speeding without realising, and before you know it you’ll have broken a speed limit somewhere.

The Resolution:
To avoid speeding because of aggression on the road, it’s a good idea to just avoid driving when you are really angry. After all, getting a speeding fine is not going to make things better for you. It’s important to avoid getting aggressive while driving as well. Do you really want to end up in a serious car accident, well ths is what you can expect in addition to a speeding ticket when you drive this way.

Reason #4 – Running Late – When people think they are going to be late… this is when they start to speed. They end up speeding just to make it a few moments earlier, when in fact in trying to drop the kids off or make it to work, they have endanged the lives of others, and incurred a speeding fine – is it really worth it. Before they know it they are speeding along trying to make it on time, and then comes the bad part – the speeding fines.

The Resolution:
Its all to sad in hindsight to realise that the reason people get speeding fines was due to something so simple. More haste, less speed – seriously, its easy to speed when you think you’re going to be later. The better option is to leave on time or make sure you have a few minutes to spare. If you are running behind, call ahead to let someone know. It’s better than ending up with a huge fine or being involved in an accident because you were late.

Reason #5 – The Road Seems Deserted – Dont take this as an excuse to speed, you never know who is around the corner. They think no one is around, it seems safe, and they speed up a bit. Well the speed cameras don’t turn off at night, and you never know when someone is setting a speed trap. Never think its okay to accelerate – the speeding ticket is just waiting for you to do so.

The Solution:
Even if the road seems to be deserted, you still need to obey the speed limit. You don’t know what you are going to meet up the road. You’ll avoid speeding fines if you always drive according to the speed limit, no matter how many people are on the road or how safe it may seem.

I am totally opposed to all speed cameras. They are not accurate and they don’t really do anything expecte raise revenue and force drivers to cocnstantly watch their speedometer rather than concentrate on the road ahead and what is going on around them. I found some interesting information on http://bit.ly/Y59uH that may be of use to readers if they get pinged. Actually you should read it BEFORE you get a ticket.
