Why Collecting Antique Dodge Trucks is a Passion for Some People

By -, September 1, 2010 1:36 pm

Antique trucks since long have interested American inhabitants. It has become their favorite pastime. Collecting these trucks is not only a hobby but it is a passion for some. Special groups, clubs and museums have been created to showcase the collected automobiles.

Older trucks were used largely in agriculture. They belonged to the 20th century. The oldest and the most original truck was the Mack truck which was owned by John Mack. They were introduced during the 1800s and since then have seen their expansion to buses, dump trucks, semis and other 18 wheeler vehicles.

The popular brands include Chevy, Dodge, and Ford out of which the Dodge truck is a favorite one. The value and the cost of the truck depend upon its rarity and its present condition. The price ranges from anything few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars. Many museums and magazines have been designed to house these antique Dodge trucks.

The oldest Dodge truck model was the Dodge Model 30 which as built in the year 1914 by the dodge brothers company. It was a 4 cylinder truck with a body made entirely of steel. The features of this antique truck were 12 volt electrical system and sliding gear transmission. The other Dodge model was model T which had an antique planetary pattern but it was phased out of market very soon by the year 1927. During the years of introduction of the company only light duty trucks were manufactured but later during the 1930s and 1940s the medium and heavy duty trucks were also introduced.

During late 1930s, the Dodge Company introduced the 14 cylinder trucks which proved to be major breakthrough for the company. The company also introduced newer and more improved versions of trucks during the year 1939. But due to the Second World War the company was shut down. Later in the years from 1945 to 1949 a number of 6 cylinder trucks came into being which were named the ‘Power Wagon’.

Antique dodge trucks can be bought from auctions, trade shows, trade magazines or even web site biddings. An American truck Historical Society has been formed specially which deals with the buying and selling of antique trucks. They even have memberships and newsletters to keep the interested ones updated about antique dodge trucks. An antique truck museum can be found in almost all states of USA.

There are a number of antique dodge trucks to choose from. They include Dodge Model 30, Dodge Model T, Series 116 and many more. Even today some of these trucks are on display and even for sale. Interested people can participate in auctions and biddings to own one of the antique Dodge trucks. These trucks are extremely popular and are a symbol of prestige. Hence more and more people have opted for buying these antique Dodge trucks. Even though the Dodge trucks gained more popularity after the Second World War, even today there are many people who want to add these vintage automobiles to their collection.

Dodge Magnum Rt Car Review

By -, July 12, 2009 9:37 pm

The new Magnum is a great looking automobile which may get your neighbors speaking as you rumble around the block. The unique styling of the Magnum will also attract gawkers in the shape of 18-22 year old guys pointing for their mates to “check that out”. And some folks will approach you as you are filling up the gas tank to ask, “Does it really have a Hemi?”, with only a vague notion that it somehow makes the auto better.

The Magnum is offered with many different engine sizes (either a 6-cylinder or 8-cylinder) with your selection of hp Output of 190, 250, 340 and 425. The cost of the vehicle also corresponds with the engine size beginning at $30,345 to the pricey STR-8 model for $37,320. A big part of the mystique around this car is the Hemi engine. The Hemi is short for hemispherical combustion chamber, which creates better fuel burning and allows larger valves for better airflow. Basically, it produces more power than an engine with its displacement would usually produce. (There are flaws to the Hemi, and is why it isn’t the sole engine that Chrysler produces).

The interior of the automobile looks much dearer than you would be expecting for the cost of the Magnum. Since Mercedes purchased Chrysler, the Dodge autos I have sampled have had a sharp improvement in interior quality. While on the road, the auto is very solid and the seats are cosy even on long road runs.

As much as I like the looks, after driving it a while I have to question the design idea the Magnum offers. It’s a station lorry built to transport a large amount of people and a large amount of stuff. But mating this with a robust engine with the taught racing-like suspension is uncomfortable for both. It is like having a Corvette tow a little trailer, and you are in the trailer and the Corvette driver is fifteen years-old, pushing the vehicle to its boundaries. ( Only a Corvette has a way more cosy suspension than the Magnum ). Even driving on smooth roads, the steering is very darty and hard to control. And with a large car, all that weaving and road feedback is exaggerated for the passengers and everything you have stored in the back.

I like having a navigation system, but figuring out how to use it with the wheel controls made me often refer to the user’s manual. Regardless of the high horsepower and low-end torque I played with when starting from a full stop, the RT model I drove averaged twenty Miles per gallon on the higway.

What I presume to be the target market for this car, those 18-22 year-old guys that I mentioned, will often love this automobile. And as much as I like driving sports cars, the darty steering and sharp suspension make it too uncomfortable without any spectacular payoff. The 0-60 sprint is fun for a little while, but I’d pass on buying a Magnum as a daily driving vehicle.

The Dodge Charger Coupe

DaimlerChrysler’s Dodge division has actually been making a name for itself over the last decade. No longer in the shade of Chrysler or a copy of Plymouth, Dodge has its own autos stamped with its own unique personality. The Charger is Dodge’s latest hot model; what can Dodge do for an encore? Read on for all the exciting details!

Caliber – The compact Neon is dead and a replacement vehicle is waiting in the wings by the name of Caliber. Sporting Dodge’s signature crosshair grille, the Caliber looks like a Chrysler Pacifica but it is in the Chrysler PT Cruiser’s size range. This five door wagon-like vehicle features jacked up wheel arches and a sloped roofline that tapers off to a rear hatch spoiler. On demand all wheel drive is predicted to be one of the automobile’s options. Built on a Mitsubishi Lancer platform, the Caliber has been intended to go toe-to-toe with the VW Golf and Mazda 3. The Caliber is anticipated to debut in early 2006 as a 2007 model.

Nitro – Dodge gets a tiny SUV, the Nitro which is a rebadged and a little redone Jeep Liberty. As is customary with all up to date Dodges, the Nitro sports the Dodge crosshair grille and unique wheel arches. Everything else about the Nitro is expected to be virtually the same as the Liberty including engine and transmission decisions. The Nitro is expected to debut late in 2006.

Charger Coupe – Okay, I am dreaming. So are plenty of other folk who are just itching for Dodge to release a two door version of the awesome Charger. The word about Charger is this : half the people like the sedan and the other half are disappointed it wasn’t developed as a coupe. No confirmation has been made, but a coupe may show up in late 2007 joining with [not replacing] this sedan.

Love Those Vans – Chrysler is nearing the end of the life cycle for the current crop of minivans which still outsells any rival on the market. Stow ‘N Go has been such a popular hit that any revamp will be built around this nifty feature. Expect the newest rendition of the Caravan and the Chrysler Town and Country to show up some time in 2008.

So, there you have it. The division that at one point gave us the Aries K and Omni now has the Rattlesnake , Ram, Dakota, Durango, and a large number of other exciting vehicles. Dodge fans are pinching themselves praying that it is not all a dream. Well, it’s not and the upcoming models guarantee to defend Dodge’s new found place in The Chrysler Group.

What is your dream car? Check out some of the fastest and most exotic cars ever built at thesupercars.org and also take a look at used Dodge Magnum for sale.

Ford Crown Victoria Change Is Good

By -, July 10, 2009 9:11 pm

One of the most well known names in autodom is poised to get its first major overhaul in nearly thirty years. Ford’s Crown Victoria, introduced in 1979, has had only insignificant changes since its introduction, but a new plan by Ford to overhaul the crown jewel of its fleet is reputedly in the offing. Thanks to state help – Australian to be specific – the new Crown Victoria will be a clean break from this model and will help to spawn additional models for siblings Mercury and Lincoln. Yes, you may not have considered a Crown Victoria up to this point, but the approaching new “Crown Vic” will change your mind about that.

You have to go back all the way to the late 1970s to when “downsizing” was a term employed by the auto industry to describe a shell game where giant automobiles were dropped down a nick in size to sit on a platform rather smaller than the previous model. Indeed, thru the 1970s Ford’s fullsize offerings the LTD/Galaxie 500 were enormous beasts of burden. By the point the then new Galaxie 500 Crown Victoria was released at the end of the decade, Ford was playing catch up to General Motors who had earlier mastered the entire downsizing strategy.

Initially, the Crown Victoria had a broad appeal for drivers wanting a huge automobile with all the accoutrements. As time went buy the car grew less and less desirable as client tastes modified, but the Crown Victoria’s style did not. As a pursuit, presidency, or fleet car the Crown Victoria has done very well, but Ford has only made modest enhancements to the automobile over the years. Indeed, America’s two automaker has invested heavily in trucks, vans, SUVS and select automobiles, but the Crown Victoria quickly started to show its age. Today’s model is extremely outmoded and it hasn’t had a comprehensive refreshing in more than a decade, so an overhaul is warranted.

Ford’s impetus for change is coming from an improbable source : a foreign govt. According to news sources, Ford’s Australian operation has received a $1.4 bn. grant from Australia to build a production and research facility which will be used to design and build several new models. One of the Australian automobiles slated to take advantage of this move will be the Ford Falcon, a full sized vehicle that will become the basis of the all-new Crown Victoria.

While some have theorized that the the new Crown Victoria will be built in Australia and imported to the U.S, this is doubtful to happen. Instead, Ford will expand the Falcon’s production to one U.S. Plant, make some technical refinements, and sell the car as a Crown Victoria. It’ll be targeted to police departments and fleet buyers primarily with some residual sales for private buyers. In addition, the Crown Victoria will spawn a new Mercury Gran Marquis while a marginally stretched and much more and plenty more sublime version of the car will become the replacement for the current Lincoln Town Car.

Yes, the Crown Victoria is well past its useful age. Thanks to some assistance from down under, the 2010 model should be a refreshing change. At least Ford hopes you will think so.
