Modec Sell 100 Vans to French Distributor

By -, July 6, 2009 7:09 pm

The Coventry based electric van manufacturer, Modec, has released details that they have won a contract worth £3m for the sale of 100 vans to a French dsitributor. This news was released after Modec announced that their electric urban delivery van is the first to gain the EC Whole Vehicle Type Approval. This means that Modec can now sell the vans to any country within the EU without having to put it through more tests.

The electric van manufacturer has had business with the likes of Tesco’s, FedEx, Center Parcs and UPS, just to name a few. Now they can add ElecTruckCity to their list of clients who have payed £3m for 100 new vans.

ElecTruckCity is a French van distributor who is based in Paris, they are the first Modec distributor in France. This was said by Bill Gillespie, chief executive of Modec: “International demand for Modec is extremely strong. ElecTruckCity has taken the lead by setting up a distribution network in France and we are very excited about the future of the French market.”

The vans that were bought by ElecTruckCity were the popular urban delivery vans. There are now over 150 Modec delivery vans around the UK, owned by clients such as FedEx. These Modec delivery vans are becoming ever more popular because they have been design for the city. The Modec van can travel 100 miles on the lithium battery at only 15p per mile, whereas a petrol powered van would cost around 37p per mile.

The vans also help companies reduce their emmission because they save more than 9 tonnes of CO2 every year.

As these Modec vans become ever more popular, it appears that the common vans that you see around like Citroen vans or Nissan vans will have alot of competition as more and more companies want to get greener.

Modec are targeting the tipper van market with their brand new electric powered tipper van. This new vehicle has been specifically designed for local authority refuse collection. With more and more councils trying to be greener, this new vans are likely to become very popular.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if we started to see an increase in van leasing companies that are investing in Modec vans as alot of companies that are currently leasing their vans may be interested in a cheaper, more greener alternative.
